研究內容概述:
Recently, plasmonic nanostructures demonstrated interesting properties of wavelength shortening, filed enhancement and localization, and they are promising for the increase of the efficiency and sensitivity of optical energy conversion and emission. “Plasmonic metamaterials” are engineered nano composites unit that exhibit plasmonic and other superior electro-optical properties not found in nature and not observed in the constituent materials of its nano unit, and they had also shown very interesting phenomena and performance on the optical enhancement. We will design and simulate nanostructured plasmonic metamaterials to find out the optimized structures and configurations.

We plan to study theoretically plasmonic nanostructures of various sizes and structures and to use high-performance PC cluster to calculate and to simulate the localization and enhancement of surface plasmon resonance. We will first investigate surface plasmons in metallic nano-structures and plasmonic meta-materials with emphases on the origin of localization and enhancement of the electromagnetic fields, and on the interactions between local enhanced fields and materials. Based on the calculation and stimulation results, the near- and far-field optical properties of the unit cell of plasmonic metamaterial will be investigated to design plasmonic metamaterials of novel properties.
